Olivia’s criminal case was harder than Richard’s.
Historical records.
Intent.
Old transactions.
Statutes.
Some conduct too old.
Some civil only.
Current obstruction clearer.
She had knowingly withheld beneficiary information during Northgate certification.
Directed destruction or removal of internal files after Julian recognized the ring.
Participated in false representation that no known Sterling descendant existed despite pre-marital investigation.
She did not order Richard to assault me.
No evidence.
She did cultivate the dependence narrative and video archive.
Some unethical acts were not separate crimes.
The prosecution charged what it could prove.
Olivia eventually pled guilty to conspiracy to obstruct a fiduciary investigation, false certification connected to asset transactions, and related financial offenses.
She fought civil claims separately.
Sentencing included prison.
Years.
Not life.
Restitution.
Professional bans from fiduciary and regulated corporate roles.
At sentencing she asked to speak.
“I thought Amelia abandoned responsibility.”
That was her first sentence.
Not apology.
Then:
“When Maya appeared, I saw the same danger.”
The judge asked:
“What danger?”
Olivia paused.
“Losing control of assets I had spent my life managing.”
There.
Finally.
She admitted teaching Richard to see me as someone whose dependence made the family safer.
She denied wanting me physically harmed.
I believed that distinction.
She wanted me contained socially.
Financially.
Legally.
Richard turned that philosophy into physical humiliation on his own.
Before officers led her away, Olivia looked at me.
“You have her face.”
Amelia.
My mother.
I answered:
May you like
“I have my own.”
It was the only sentence I ever needed her to hear.
