Chapter 26 - ETHAN’S RULES
Ethan became director of a national child-product safety institute at thirty-seven.
Not because of the family story alone.
He was excellent.
He had one rule posted in training rooms:
A SAFETY CONCERN IS NOT DISLOYALTY.
Another:
UNCERTAINTY MUST REMAIN VISIBLE UNTIL EVIDENCE REDUCES IT.
I told him the second sounded terrible on a poster.
He said:
“That’s why you work in buildings.”
Fair.
He and his wife, Nora, had a daughter.
Sophie.
When she turned five, Richard was already dead.
Helen lived long enough to meet her.
