Chapter 18 - The Night Before Court

Cade slept.

Pierce sat on patio.

I joined.

“You nervous?”

“Yes.”

“You’ll tell truth.”

“Yes.”

Then:

“What if attorney makes me look like I ordered it?”

“You did order some of it.”

He winced.

I continued:

“Don’t fight facts to protect identity.”

He stared at me.

That line had come from my anger class.

Annoyingly useful.

Then he asked:

“Do you forgive me?”

I had not answered before.

“Some.”

He nodded.

“Enough to stay?”

“So far.”

That was our marriage.

Not grand declaration.

So far.

Then:

“Do you still love me?”

“Yes.”

He cried.

Love is not acquittal.

That sentence we learned without saying.
