Chapter 19 - MAREN’S FULL STATEMENT

Maren gave a voluntary statement in the divorce discovery process through counsel.
Not because I asked her directly again.
I did not.
She admitted:
She knew Nathan was married.
She knew I was pregnant.
She knew the relationship was wrong.
She also said Nathan repeatedly described our marriage as:
“functionally over.”
False.
He told her he planned to separate after the baby’s birth.
He told me in counseling:
“I want our marriage.”
Both sentences existed within days of each other.
That was Nathan’s true betrayal.
Not choosing another woman.
Choosing different realities depending on who stood in front of him.
Maren also described Diana’s birthday involvement.
At 5:49 that evening Diana called her.
“Do not come downstairs.”
Maren said:
“I’m not here for Elise.”
Diana:
“Then keep it that way.”
Maren:
“He owes me an answer.”
Diana:
“He owes his wife a family tonight.”
That sentence sounded almost loyal to me.
Then Diana opened the side door and let Maren inside.
Contradiction again.
She wanted Nathan to end the affair without the affair becoming visible.
Maren said the Suite Two meeting lasted approximately twenty minutes.
She told Nathan she would no longer accept being hidden.
He said:
“Give me until the baby is born.”
She slapped him?
No.
Important.
She kissed him.
He kissed her back.
Then she pulled away.
The lipstick transferred.
Maren told him:
“You can keep lying to yourself. I’m done.”
Then she left.
No glamorous mistress waiting for him.
May you like
No secret future.
Just two people ending something ugly too late.
