Chapter 22 - EMILY AT EIGHTEEN

At eighteen, Emily received full access to trust education.

Not control yet.

She read Section Eight.

Then looked at me.

“This is why Grandma lost the house?”

“She lost her right to live there because of breach.”

“So technically I got her kicked out.”

“No.”

“She hit me.”

“Yes.”

“Then court.”

“Yes.”

“That’s me.”

“No.”

She smiled.

“You really hate causal shortcuts.”

“Yes.”

She learned the Meridian sale funded a large trust balance.

Her education.

Maintenance.

Investments.

She did not become reckless.

Did not become saintly.

Bought an expensive laptop immediately.

Reasonable.

Then asked:

“Could we sell Carter House now?”

My body reacted.

She saw.

“Mom.”

“It’s your trust issue eventually.”

“Would you be mad?”

“No.”

“Sad?”

“Yes.”

“Different.”

Exactly.

She chose not to decide yet.

The house did not need permanent preservation to prove we had healed.
