Chapter 19 - THE WEDDING THAT STILL COST MONEY

Canceling a wedding does not make invoices disappear.
Venue deposit.
Florist.
Band.
Catering.
Dress alterations.
Guest transportation.
Total committed expenses:
Approximately $286,000.
Family money.
Still money.
Some deposits refundable.
Some not.
Who paid?
Mostly me.
Celeste paid for her dress, part of photography, and several guest events.
Her attorney argued I canceled and should reimburse her nonrecoverable expenses.
Fair question.
My attorney wanted to fight everything.
I said no.
We separated categories.
Her dress:
hers.
Her personal guest event deposits:
we reimbursed half where clearly undertaken for our joint wedding.
My family’s vendors:
mine.
Her family travel cancellations:
we covered reasonable documented nonrefundable costs because guests had relied on the invitation.
No one needed to punish a cousin who bought a ticket.
