Chapter 24 - TYLER’S MONEY QUESTION

At eighteen, Tyler’s beneficiary meeting lasted twenty-eight minutes.
He hated finance.
The trustee explained protected rights.
He asked:
“Can I buy a motorcycle?”
“That is not what this meeting—”
“Trust money?”
The trustee looked at me.
I said nothing.
His money.
His lesson.
The trustee answered:
“Potentially through a permitted distribution, but your advisers would discuss whether it fits the trust purpose.”
Tyler grinned.
“Finally useful.”
He became a physical therapist.
Not because Richard kicked him.
He liked sports.
He liked anatomy.
He liked watching people improve.
Trauma does not get ownership of every career choice.
At twenty-six he bought the motorcycle with his own savings.
Not trust money.
Then texted me a photo.
I called him immediately.
He answered:
“I’m wearing a helmet.”
“I hate you.”
“Love you too.”
Normal fear.
Beautiful.
He never met Richard again.
His choice remained no.
When Richard died years later, Tyler attended no funeral.
Megan did.

Different choices.
Neither morally superior.
