Chapter 25 - THE EASTER VIDEO
When Clara was twenty-six, the family asked whether we wanted a private copy of the Easter security footage after legal retention periods ended.
The official record remained where required.
Our duplicate could be destroyed.
I asked Clara.
“Destroy it.”
“No hesitation?”
“I know what happened.”
The video did not create truth anymore.
It had served its purpose.
We authorized deletion.
No ceremony.
No final viewing.
No frame of a child falling preserved as family mythology.
That evening Clara asked:
“Do you still remember it?”
“Yes.”
“So deleting doesn’t erase.”
“No.”
“Good.”
Why good?

“Because then I don’t have to keep evidence to trust myself.”
That was worth more than any corporate victory.
