Chapter 23 - JOCELYN SELLS DOWN

Marroway held Keller Heritage for nine years.

Then we reduced our stake.

Not because I hated the company.

Because permanent family control was exactly what we had spent years trying to escape.

Employee ownership increased.

A pension fund invested.

Management received shares.

Marroway sold gradually at market value.

By the time I was forty-one, we held twelve percent.

No control.

Keller Heritage had:

Independent board.

Audit committee.

Beneficiary-fund separation.

No family-office loans without third-party review.

No company executive serving as family fiduciary.

Boring.

Beautiful.
