Chapter 13 - ELEANOR’S SIGNATURE
Eleanor’s role in Hawthorn became the hardest to categorize.
She did not create the investment policy.
Did not choose Florida.
Did not personally benefit from Clara’s reserve loan.
She did use my signature image on consent paperwork.
Her explanation:
Richard told her I had verbally approved.
The family office routinely prepared documents for later ratification.
She believed the signature was administrative, not legal.
Paul Danner contradicted part.
“I told her we needed Jocelyn’s actual consent.”
Eleanor said she remembered:
“We need Jocelyn.”
Not:
We need her fresh signature.
Forensic messages showed Richard:
Use the standing signature and I’ll handle her.
Eleanor replied:
Okay.
That was ugly.
Was it criminal identity fraud?
Prosecutors examined intent.
She later admitted:
“I knew you had not personally signed that PDF.”
“Then why?”
“Because Richard said you would ratify.”
“That is not consent.”
“I understand now.”
“Did you understand then?”
Long pause.
“Yes.”
There.
She entered a plea to a limited false-record offense.
Probation.
Home confinement.
Restitution for investigation costs.
Permanent family-office ban.
No prison given age, role, no prior record, cooperation, and absence of personal enrichment tied directly to the consent.
Some people called it lenient.
I did not.
