Mom’s consequences were mostly relational and civil.
She had assisted forged authorization processes.
Provided verification codes.
Witnessed a signature she did not see me make.
Helped create the manipulation file.
Her attorney negotiated civil repayment and cooperation.
One lower-level false-certification issue resulted in probationary consequences.
The larger punishment she cared about was not legal.
Noah would not visit.
I would not call.
Ashley blamed her.
Dad moved into the guest room for six months.
Mom wrote letters.
The first:
Everything I did was for family.
I returned it.
Second:
I never meant to take anything from Noah.
Returned.
Third:
I kept telling myself you had enough. I understand now that “enough” became my excuse not to ask permission.
I kept that one.
