Chapter 15 - THE SECOND DOCUMENT

The certified academy packet contained more than the $28,400 contract.

Behind it was a separate form I missed at the party.

Morgan Branch Education Support Note.

Maximum approved exposure:

$186,000.

Term:

Through Emma’s eighteenth birthday.

Purpose:

Tuition, camps, technology, academic coaching, approved enrichment.

Donor branch:

Rachel Morgan.

Recipient:

Ashley Cole / Emma Cole.

My signature.

Again.

If accepted by Mountain West, it would not instantly transfer $186,000.

It would create standing authorization for future expenses up to that cap.

Ashley had tried to turn one old favor into eleven years of permission.

Martin stared at the form.

“This was submitted Friday.”

The party had been Saturday.

“Status?”

“Pending.”

“Stop it.”

“Already frozen.”

Who prepared it?

Metadata.

Ashley’s laptop.

Who certified witness?

Diane Morgan.

My mother.

Who recommended trustee approval?

George Morgan.

My father.

His signature was genuine.

I sat very still.

“He knew this one.”

Martin said nothing.

“He knew.”

“He knew the standing authorization existed.”

May you like

“Did he know my signature was copied?”

“That is the remaining question.”
