Chapter 4 - TYLER’S STORY CHANGES

Tyler’s first story:
I swung toward the ground.
Ethan stepped into it.
Second:
I was trying to scare him away from landscaping.
Third:
The rod bounced off a rock.
Video contradicted all three.
He lifted the rod.
Waited.
Swung horizontally downward toward Ethan’s shin.
Not a wild strike.
Controlled.
Detective Ortiz asked:
“Why?”
Tyler said:
“I snapped.”
Better.
Still incomplete.
“What were you angry about?”
“He never listens.”
“About what?”
“Everything.”
Then:
“He’s spoiled.”
There it was.
A word my parents used too.
Spoiled.
Why?
Because I paid for Ethan’s soccer.
Because he had a tablet.
Because after my divorce, I took him on a trip to San Diego.
May you like
Because I earned more than Tyler.
None explained premeditation.
