Chapter 23 - ETHAN WALKS AGAIN

First step without crutches:

Seven months.

Ugly.

Shaky.

Beautiful.

Physical therapist said:

“Don’t clap.”

I nearly exploded.

Why not?

Because Ethan hated being watched.

So I sat.

He took six steps.

Then:

“Dad.”

“Yes?”

“You can clap now.”

I stood and applauded like an idiot.

He laughed.

Soccer came later.

Not competitive immediately.

He kicked a ball at ten months.

Stopped.

Looked at me.

May you like

I waited.

Then he kicked again.
