Chapter 26 - THE WOMAN I MARRIED AFTER

I remarried at forty-three.

Her name was Claire Morgan.

A civil engineer.

Divorced.

No interest in managing my medication, fortunately.

On our third date, she asked:

“Why do you always refill your own water?”

I told her.

Not the entire story.

Enough.

Years later, before marriage, we signed a prenup.

Independent lawyers.

No inherited company rights.

No community trust authority.

No automatic fiduciary roles.

Claire read every page.

Then asked:

“Why does this agreement say neither spouse can act as conservator for Florence Weaver?”

I looked.

Old template clause.

Rachel had copied it from prior drafts.

Florence had been dead two years.

We both laughed.

Then removed it.

Documents should reflect current life.

Not preserve trauma forever.

Our wedding was small.

At dinner, someone poured water into my glass without asking.

I drank it.

Did not notice until later.

Progress can be invisible.
