Chapter 19 - FLORENCE TESTIFIES TO THE LAND TRUST

At seventy-eight, Florence voluntarily transferred her active trustee role to the community land trust.

Not because she lacked capacity.

Because she was tired.

The board asked me to join.

I accepted one seat.

Six others:

environmental scientist.

local resident.

tribal liaison.

municipal planner.

scholarship representative.

independent fiduciary.

No Weaver majority.

My first vote concerned selling twelve acres near an access road.

I wanted no.

Emotion.

Protect everything.

Then staff showed maintenance costs.

Fire-risk mitigation.

Trail repairs.

Scholarship funding.

The sale would not affect shoreline.

I voted yes.

Florence laughed when I told her.

“Look at you, selling the sacred lake.”

“Small parcel.”

“Still.”

“You approve?”

“It isn’t my decision anymore.”

May you like

There.

Healthy transfer.
