My design studio grew.
Hospitality interiors.
Senior-living spaces.
Healthcare.
I specialized increasingly in places where people were physically vulnerable.
Not because trauma dictated destiny.
Because I was good at it.
Still, some details came from experience.
Reachable water.
Storage people can access without asking.
Visitor-control systems belonging to patients, not families.
Clear door permissions.
No universal family override codes.
Postpartum rooms with:
food access,
partner space,
private lactation support,
secure belongings,
easy call buttons,
and clear patient-rights information.
One architect asked why I cared so much about lock permissions.
I said:
“Because keys are governance.”
He thought I was being philosophical.
I wasn’t.
My firm eventually designed a new maternity wing for an unrelated hospital system.
No Sutton name.
No trauma branding.
