Chapter 21 - IRIS AT EIGHTEEN

Iris hated beneficiary meetings.

Good.

At eighteen, Hawthorne explained:

“You do not own twenty-three percent of Sutton Hospitality.”

She looked disappointed.

“Internet lied?”

“Frequently.”

“You cannot fire the CEO.”

“Rude.”

“You cannot withdraw company funds.”

“Then what do I have?”

“Protected beneficiary rights, economic interests governed separately, consultation rights, and independent fiduciary protections.”

“So paperwork.”

“Yes.”

She looked at me.

“Grandma nearly destroyed your marriage over paperwork.”

Torin, attending separately by invitation, said:

“More accurately, we nearly destroyed it over control.”

I looked at him.

Good correction.

Iris studied biomedical engineering.

Not hospitality.

Not trusts.

Not family law.

People tried to make her career symbolic because she was born after a custody scheme.

She hated that.

“I like devices.”

Trauma does not own every career choice.

She used lawful trust distributions for university.

Worked internships.

Bought an expensive camera because she loved photography.

No guilt.

Wealth is not virtue.

Poverty is not virtue.

Accountability matters more.
