Chapter 23 - LIORA’S MONEY

At eighteen Liora learned she was wealthy.
Not billionaire wealthy.
Not secret-princess wealthy.
Protected family assets.
Trust distributions.
Future economic interests.
She looked deeply disappointed.
“So I can’t buy a hotel?”
“You can buy one if you someday have enough personal money and someone wants to sell.”
“Trust?”
“Not automatically.”
“Can I fire Mara?”
“No.”
“Can I make Grandma give me Whitestone?”
“No.”
“This is boring.”
“Yes.”
Perfect.
She studied veterinary medicine.
Because of the stuffed dog?
No.
Because she loved animals.
I refused to let trauma own every career decision.
She kept the stuffed dog anyway.
Marlow? No. Different story. This one had no name yet.
She had named it Beans.
Of course.
Beans sat on a shelf in her college apartment.
