Chapter 15 - WHITESTONE FINDS ITS REAL PRICE

Whitestone did not become a glamorous success overnight.

Independent lenders hated the project.

Too much debt.

Environmental delays.

Darlene had overestimated demand.

The Sutton Heritage restructuring bought time.

She eventually sold forty percent of Whitestone to an outside development partner.

At a lower valuation than she wanted.

No catastrophe.

No miracle.

Sutton Heritage loan was repaid over eighteen months.

Interest included.

The company made money.

Less than projected.

Still money.

This mattered because Darlene had justified everything by insisting review would destroy Whitestone.

It did not.

Review forced reality.

Her ownership fell.

Her control fell.

The project survived.

That was almost poetic.

I tried not to call it that.

Business is not poetry.

Mostly contracts and drainage studies.

Then Sutton Heritage sold its Whitestone loan position to an institutional lender after stabilization.

Family conflict removed.

Good.

The transaction that inspired the concealment became boring.

That was the best possible ending for it.
