Daniel broke before Evelyn.
His lawyer negotiated cooperation.
He admitted financial fraud.
Provided account keys.
Explained shell vendors.
Identified a bank executive? No corrupt bank executive. Ordinary transfers.
He implicated himself more than anyone.
Why cooperate?
Sentence reduction.
Guilt.
Self-preservation.
All.
He also corrected one assumption.
Mom did not invent Northline.
He did.
Mom joined later.
He said:
“I told her it was temporary.”
She believed him because she wanted to.
Then Clara.
Daniel claimed he repeatedly told Mom:
“Don’t hurt them.”
Camera supported some objection.
But he remained.
Signed petition draft.
Helped block Clara’s car.
Deleted one audit file from family server.
Told me Clara was unstable.
He was not passive.
He wanted credit for handing Lily water.
Prosecutor said:
“That is not exculpatory.”
Correct.
Daniel asked through lawyers to send Lily a letter.
Clara said no.
I agreed.
Not punishment.
She was four.
No reason to bring his remorse into her recovery.
He wrote to me instead.
I’m sorry.
I did not answer.
Then longer:
I spent my whole life thinking you were the son who got everything because you were better at being what Dad wanted.
I wanted one thing that proved I could build something bigger than you.
Harbor Crest failed.
I hid it.
Then every lie became the cost of protecting the previous one.
That was psychologically useful.
Not absolution.
