Chapter 26 - PERRIN BECOMES A FATHER
Perrin became a father at thirty-two.
A daughter.
Lucy.
At four, she discovered a crawlspace beneath their stairs.
She loved it.
Perrin hated it.
His wife noticed.
“Want to seal it?”
He thought.
Then:
“No.”
They installed lighting.
A door that opened from both sides.
Soft cushions.
Rules.
Lucy called it her castle.
Perrin sat inside once.
Five minutes.
Then left.
He called me afterward.
“Dad.”
“Yes?”
“I thought I’d freak out.”
“Did you?”
“A little.”
“What did you do?”
“Checked the latch.”
“Good.”
