Chapter 9 - THE SECOND ACCOUNT

The second account held 184,000 dollars.

It had been opened under the trust’s tax identification number six months before my father died.

My mother and Martin Hale were listed as authorized signers.

I was not.

Monthly transfers moved rental income and hardware-store payments into Carly’s company, Hale’s legal-retainer account, and a loan-servicing firm.

The firm held Carly’s private debt.

My mother had spent nearly a year hiding payments.

When my audit request threatened to expose them, Hale proposed the building sale. Its proceeds would repay the secret withdrawals, clear Carly’s loans, and leave enough money to make the trust appear whole.

They did not need me gone forever.

They needed me discredited for one closing.

The mouse traps were the quickest way to make me angry on camera.

Investigators forensically extracted Carly’s phone.

She had deleted the original video, but fragments remained.

In one recovered section, recorded before Ethan entered the room, my mother’s voice said:

“Keep the camera on Emily. Once she threatens us, stop.”

Carly answered, “What if Ethan gets really hurt?”

“He won’t.”

A man’s voice came through the phone speaker.

Martin Hale.

“The injury only needs to look serious.”

I left the interview room and vomited in a courthouse restroom.

They had discussed my son’s pain as a visual requirement.

Carly now faced charges related to child endangerment, evidence tampering, and conspiracy. My mother and Hale remained under investigation.

Then the case turned against me again.

Carly produced screenshots of messages supposedly sent from my account.

In them, I told her to stage a dramatic prank because I wanted leverage in the estate dispute.

The messages appeared to predate the injury by two days.

I had never written them.

Account logs showed they came from my legitimate cloud profile.

The device used was an old tablet.

The same tablet missing from my mother’s house.

Without recovering it, the false messages could make me look like the person who planned everything.
