Chapter 6 - DIANE
We contacted Diane through the agency.
Not Frank.
The agency verified identity.
Explained that Emily’s adoptive parents had become aware of letters never submitted.
Diane thought it was a mistake.
Then the caseworker told her Frank had them.
Diane did not answer for almost a minute.
She asked:
“Is Emily okay?”
That was first.
Not:
Does she know me?
Not:
Can I see her?
Is she okay?
The caseworker said yes.
Then Diane asked:
“Did they hate me?”
Claire cried when she heard that.
No.
They never hated her.
They never received anything.
Diane requested no direct meeting immediately.
Also good.
She wanted therapy first.
Then a mediated adult meeting.
No Emily.
I began to like her before meeting her.
