Chapter 20 - DIANE CONFRONTS HIM
Diane met Frank with a therapist and attorney present.
I was not there.
She later told me parts.
“Did you read them?”
“Yes.
“Every letter?”
“Yes.”
“Did you ever intend to mail them?”
“At first.”
“When did that stop being true?”
Frank cried.
Diane did not comfort him.
Good.
“Did you tell Grandma I had no child?”
He said:
“I told her the adoption was closed.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
“No.”
Finally:
“Yes. I let her believe Emily would never be part of the family structure.”
“Why?”
“The business.”
Diane laughed.
Not kindly.
“You stole seven years for a carousel.”
Frank said:
“I didn’t steal her from you.”
“No.”
Diane nodded.
“The adoption did not steal her either.”
Then:
May you like
“You stole information.”
That phrase became the center of the civil case.
