Chapter 21 - THE HOUSE CHANGES

At seventy-four, I decided the house really was too much.
Not because Ryan said so.
Not because Linda wanted it.
Not because age meant surrender.
Because I was tired of managing twelve thousand square feet of history.
North Coast offered options.
Remain with more staff.
Move and lease house.
Convert portions to a nonprofit residence.
Sell some development rights.
I chose something Frank never predicted.
We converted the main property into a multigenerational community residence and family resource center operated through a nonprofit partnership.
I retained a private apartment in one wing under my lifetime right.
The commercial parcels funded operations.
Programs:
Temporary housing for older adults leaving coercive family situations.
Legal clinics.
Financial-literacy support.
Grandparent caregiver services.
No building named after me.
No chair logo.
Please.
The trust approved because it preserved property value and served family purposes consistent with Frank’s broad charitable clause.
Emily thought it was too public.
Then volunteered.
Ava loved it.
Noah designed the website.
The house became less mine.
May you like
More useful.
That felt right.
