Chapter 20 - FRANK’S LAST NOTE

Rebecca found one final note in the trust archive.

Frank wrote it weeks before death.

Margaret will want to simplify everything after I’m gone. She may sell too quickly, give too much, or move because she thinks being easy to care for is kindness.

I cried.

Then:

Emily may confuse love with keeping peace. Protect her descendants from that.

More tears.

Then:

I do not distrust Ryan specifically. I distrust any spouse who thinks marriage turns another family’s property into expectation.

Frank did not predict villain.

He designed against incentives.

That was wiser.

Then:

The chair Margaret loves is not in the trust. Tell her to stop acting like it’s constitutional law.

I laughed so hard Rebecca cried too.

Frank.

Thirty-one years and one dead man still mocking me.

I went home.

Walked into the study.

Looked at the old chair.

Then gave it to a furniture restorer.

Not because it was sacred.

Because it was well made.

Months later I moved it to the reading room.

Anyone could sit there.

Ava did first.
