At sixteen, Josephine received formal trust education.
Not a surprise at eighteen.
She learned gradually.
Arthur trust.
Her branch.
Historical adjustments.
Restitution.
Investment risk.
Voting rights.
Taxes.
The old negative balance.
She stared at the repaired statements.
“Grandpa charged me for Grandma Helen making soup?”
“Partly.”
“How much soup?”
I laughed.
“Not enough.”
She read the old $39 rabbit entry.
“This is insane.”
“Yes.”
“Did I keep the rabbit?”
“No.”
“What happened?”
“You spilled juice on it. We threw it away.”
She laughed.
“So the trust had a thirty-nine-dollar argument over a rabbit that died from apple juice.”
“Correct.”
Then:
“Can gifts ever be charged?”
“If everyone understands they’re advances or loans.”
“So tell people first.”
“Yes.”
“Why is that hard?”
Because transparency removes leverage.
