Chapter 25 - BELL MERE AGAIN

Lily returned to Bellmere at twenty-seven.
Her choice.
A friend was getting married there.
She almost declined.
Then said:
“I’m not giving a fountain veto power over weddings.”
Good.
I did not attend.
Not my friend.
She went with her partner, Noah Grant.
Before the reception she sent me one photo.
The fountain.
Renovated.
Same stone basin.
New lighting.
Caption:
Still rude.
I laughed so hard Alexander came downstairs.
“What?”
I showed him.
He smiled.
Later Lily told us she stood beside the water for maybe thirty seconds.
No panic.
No dramatic closure.
Then a waiter passed with appetizers and she followed him.
Priorities.
At the wedding, a little boy splashed his hands in the fountain.
His mother laughed.
Lily watched.
Nothing happened inside her that required explanation.
That was healing too.

Not courage.
Ordinary attention moving somewhere else.
