Chapter 24 - GEORGIA’S RELEASE
Georgia left prison in her seventies.
Supervised release.
No fiduciary role.
No work involving vulnerable adults.
No trust authority.
She lived in a small apartment.
Not the family estate.
That had been sold during restitution and restructuring.
She asked for contact with Anna.
Anna was old enough to decide.
Fourteen.
We told her an age-appropriate full history before asking.
Georgia is your grandmother.
She locked your mother in a shed while Mom was pregnant.
She committed financial crimes.
She served her sentence.
She has asked to meet you.
Anna said:
“No.”
Immediate.
We accepted.
At sixteen, she changed to:
“Maybe one letter.”
Georgia wrote.
No guilt.
No “I might die before you see me.”
No gifts.
She said:
I hurt your mother because I believed keeping control mattered more than her freedom. You do not owe me a relationship because I am your grandmother.
Anna read it.
“Better than I expected.”
“Do you want to reply?”
