Chapter 24 - GRACE’S LAST VIDEO

Lily watched Grace’s full trust video at twenty-eight.

I watched beside her.

Grace appeared young.

Alive.

Annoyed.

“If Robert is complaining about the forty-two percent, tell him forty-two is less than the percentage of my patience he has already consumed.”

Lily laughed.

I cried.

Grace explained why she created the structure.

Not because she hated my family.

Because she understood them.

“Robert believes every temporary authority eventually becomes his property. Rebecca believes being useful to Robert makes her powerful. Linda believes peace is safer than conflict. Daniel believes refusing the family business means he is outside its consequences.”

I closed my eyes.

She had all of us.

Then:

“Lily should not have to fix any of this.”

That was the sentence that mattered.

The trust was not a mission.

Not destiny.

Not a crown.

A shield.

Grace ended:

“If the company becomes healthy enough that this much concentrated protection is unnecessary, reduce it.”

Lily had already done exactly that.

She whispered:

“Mom would’ve approved.”

“I think so.”

For once, the dead did not need to become mysterious.

Grace had been clear.
