Chapter 8 - The Fake Email

The fake domain had been purchased with Jocelyn’s personal credit card.

Three months earlier.

Registered under privacy service.

The email account recovery number ended in her digits.

Hard evidence.

Why create?

Her lawyer called it:

“Household logistics account.”

Yet only messages were to:

Ruth.

Alan.

Emmett’s school.

A summer camp.

A family-law information service.

All written as me.

One email to Ruth:

I am worried Jocelyn and I cannot keep providing what Emmett needs.

That sentence angered me because it sounded plausible.

Another:

He is acting out more when I am home because he knows I feel guilty about Amelia.

That was intimate.

Jocelyn knew exactly where to cut.

Ruth believed because it sounded like grief.

Then school.

Fake me:

Please prepare withdrawal materials. My wife Jocelyn is authorized to complete logistics.

Then:

New school TBD in Vermont.

Principal replied:

We need signed parental form.

Uploaded two days later.

Signature copied.

Metadata showed PDF created on Jocelyn’s laptop? Later forensic exam via warrant/discovery. For now, evidence suggested.

Then one exchange with a Vermont elementary school.

Fake me:

Emmett may begin after fall break. His grandparents will be caregivers temporarily.

The Vermont school requested custody/guardianship documents.

No enrollment completed.

Good.

The plan had procedural gaps.

Jocelyn could not simply transfer a child across state lines permanently without legal authorization.

That would matter to defense.

Was she truly trying to permanently remove him?

Or exploring?

Then airline ticket.

One-way for Emmett.

Round-trip for Jocelyn.

Purchased on joint credit card.

Why one-way?

She said because return date uncertain.

Could still be temporary.

Then caregiver form.

Thirty-day temporary consent with renewal language.

Not full custody.

Again ambiguity.

The central secret would require more than logistics.

Intent.

We needed messages she had not written as me.

May you like

Her own words.

Those came from Cecily.
