The $420,000 residence grant became the most contentious civil issue.
Not because my sister committed fraud.
Because Lucienne’s recommendation rested on the invented “primary descendant” status.
Hawthorne had approved without sufficient independent review.
Independent reassessment:
My sister’s family qualified for housing support.
A reasonable grant at the time:
$250,000–$280,000.
Excess:
approximately $140,000–$170,000.
Settlement:
$150,000 restored to trust over five years through reduced future discretionary distributions.
No forced home sale.
No public humiliation.
The favored cousin did not lose her bedroom.
Good.
Repair should not traumatize another child.
Lucienne hated the settlement because it formally labeled her recommendation conflict-driven.
She still believed my sister’s branch deserved more because it “carried the family.”
