Chapter 26 - THREE PLATES

Rebecca grew into a nurse administrator.

Samuel became a mechanical engineer.

Jacob became a chef.

Of course he did.

At twenty-nine, Jacob opened a restaurant.

Name:

Three Plates.

I hated it.

He loved it.

“Too dark?” I asked.

“Dad, it’s funny.”

“Your childhood humiliation is not branding.”

“It’s my childhood.”

Fair.

Three Plates had one rule posted only in employee handbook, not on walls:

Staff meals served before closing cleanup.

No one ate leftovers because hierarchy said so.

Employees could take safe surplus home.

Children visiting family events were guests.

Never labor.

Jacob laughed when I noticed.

“Trauma-informed restaurant design.”

I threatened to leave.

Then invested.

Not trust money.

Mine.

Documented.

Independent agreement.

Rachel reviewed.

She said:

May you like

“You finally learned.”

I hated her still.
