Chapter 23 - HELEN AND THE CHILDREN

Helen earned supervised contact slowly.
No automatic grandmother rights.
Therapist.
Apology.
Behavior.
She brought no gifts first visit.
Jacob asked:
“Where’s presents?”
I laughed.
Helen did too.
“Next time maybe one.”
Rebecca stayed distant.
Samuel asked:
“Why did Grandpa hate us?”
Helen answered:
“He didn’t hate you.”
Samuel:
“He called us filthy.”
Helen closed her eyes.
“He was angry at your father and used you to hurt him.”
Better.
Samuel said:
“That’s stupid.”
“Yes.”
No one forced forgiveness.
Years later, Rebecca became closest to Helen.
Samuel less.
