Claire entered a plea on false invoice and civil fraud-related conduct.

Smaller role than Robert.

Restitution.

Probation with home confinement.

Fiduciary restrictions.

No prison term beyond what court found necessary given cooperation and role.

Some people called it lenient.

Different conduct deserves different sentences.

She apologized to my children years later.

Rebecca was eleven.

Samuel ten.

Jacob eight.

Claire said:

“I helped charge money to your trust for things that did not benefit you.”

Rebecca asked:

“Like Grandpa’s cake?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I told myself family money was all the same.”

Rebecca frowned.

“It isn’t.”

“No.”

Then:

“I also laughed when you were serving.”

Rebecca looked at her.

“That was worse.”
