Chapter 4 - THE LIVESTREAM THAT NEVER STARTED

The fundraising platform suspended the livestream after receiving the hospital’s report.

Taylor posted a statement from her attorney claiming I had sabotaged Lily’s care and misunderstood a medically supervised fasting protocol.

No doctor at the hospital had ordered one.

Within hours, strangers began sending me messages.

Some called me an absent father.

Others accused me of stealing donations.

Taylor had built a public story while I was away, and my silence had been edited into support.

A family-court judge granted temporary medical custody to the state while the investigation continued. I received supervised access because officials needed to determine what I knew and what I had ignored.

Taylor received none.

She cried in court and called the decision cruel.

Evelyn sat behind her with both hands folded, staring at me as though I had betrayed the family.

My attorney, Rachel Sloan, asked for every medical, banking, and fundraising record connected to Lily.

Taylor opposed disclosure, claiming donor privacy.

The judge ordered preservation.

At the hospital, Lily asked whether she had ruined “Mom’s project.”

“You did nothing wrong.”

“She said people need to see me tired.”

“Why?”

“So they believe.”

“Believe what?”

Lily pressed her lips together.

The therapist beside us shook her head slightly. I stopped asking.

I had already missed too much by demanding easy explanations.

That night, the fundraising platform supplied transaction summaries.

Donations had moved into a nonprofit called Bright Tomorrow Family Foundation.

Taylor served as president.

Evelyn served as treasurer.

I had been listed as secretary.

My electronic signature appeared on the formation documents.

I had never seen them.

Rachel asked whether Taylor had access to my tax files.

“Yes.”

“Passwords?”

“Yes.”

“Banking login?”

“Some.”

“Why?”

“Because we were married.”

She looked at me without sympathy.

“Marriage is not a security system.”

A forensic accountant identified payments from the foundation to a private clinic called Northfield Metabolic Wellness.

More than ninety thousand dollars.

The clinic address belonged to a vacant office building.

The company owner was hidden behind another entity.

But one archived invoice carried a contact number.

It belonged to Evelyn.
