Chapter 20 - ROBERT WRITES

Robert began sending letters from custody.

I did not answer.

The first:

You know I never intended serious harm.

Trash.

Second:

I built everything for this family.

Still about him.

Third, a year later:

I chose Lily because I knew you loved her more than you loved the company.

I stopped.

Continued.

I treated that love as a weakness I could trigger.

Better.

Then:

I spent my life believing the person who could force the outcome was the person in control. I did not understand that forcing the outcome was how I lost everything I actually wanted.

Maybe true.

Maybe written by a therapist.

Didn’t matter yet.

He asked to see Lily eventually.

Answer:

No.

Not because forever was decided.

Because six-year-olds do not owe restorative justice to adults.

Robert had money.

Lawyers.

May you like

Time.

He could tolerate waiting.
