Chapter 19 - CODY COMES BACK

Cody was seventeen when he contacted William directly.
Not through Drew.
Not through adults.
A social-media message.
I told William he could ignore it.
He read it.
Cody wrote:
I’m sorry about the cake. I’m sorry I wanted you to cry. I spent years blaming your mom for knocking me down because it was easier than thinking about why I did what I did.
I hope you’re okay.
William asked:
“Do I answer?”
“Your choice.”
“What would you do?”
“I’m not you.”
He hated that answer.
Then wrote:
I’m okay. I don’t want to be friends, but I don’t hate you.
Cody replied:
Fair.
That was it.
No reunion.
May you like
No lifelong brotherhood.
Closure can be two messages.
