Chapter 4

The bride finally stepped away from the head table.

She was pale.

“This is becoming ridiculous.”

Bernice turned toward her.

“Your ring is missing.”

“I know.”

“And someone here has it.”

The bride looked around the ballroom.

No one moved.

The guests had become a silent audience.

The groom approached his bride.

“Let's call security.”

Bernice nodded.

“Yes. We should.”

Adria looked at Callum.

He had moved closer to her.

His fingers were wrapped around hers.

“Mom,” he whispered.

“Yes?”

“I don't want security to take me.”

Adria's heart tightened.

“No one is taking you anywhere.”

Bernice heard him.

She gave a cold laugh.

“If he has nothing to hide, he shouldn't be afraid.”

Adria's expression hardened.

“He's afraid because you hit him.”

Bernice ignored her.

“Call security.”

A guest reached for a phone.

Before anyone could make the call, Callum suddenly looked toward the far side of the ballroom.

His face changed.

Adria followed his gaze.

The groom was standing there.

He looked nervous.

Callum squeezed her hand.

“Mom…”

Adria bent toward him.

“What?”

His voice was barely audible.

“I saw him.”

Adria's breath caught.

“Saw who?”

Callum pointed.

The groom.

Adria stared at him.

Callum lowered his hand immediately.

The groom had noticed.

His face went pale.

Adria looked back at her son.

“What did you see?”

Callum's eyes filled with tears again.

“I saw him take it.”

The words were quiet.

But Adria heard them.

So did Bernice.

May you like

So did the bride.

The entire ballroom seemed to stop breathing.
