Chapter 24

Months after the wedding, Callum found himself thinking about that night less often.
The memory was still there.
But it no longer controlled him.
He remembered the slap.
He remembered the floor.
He remembered his mother's arms around him.
And he remembered the moment the ring rolled across the ballroom.
Most importantly, he remembered speaking.
He had been afraid.
But he had spoken.
One night, he asked his mother,
“Would you have believed me if the ring didn't fall out?”
Adria looked at him carefully.
“Yes.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I know you.”
Callum smiled.
“Even if everyone else thought I was lying?”
“Yes.”
“Always?”
Adria nodded.
“I will listen to you.”
