Several days later, Adria received another call.
This time, it was from the bride.
“Can I see Callum?”
Adria hesitated.
The bride continued.
“I don't want anything from him.”
“Then why?”
“I want to apologize.”
Adria considered it.
Finally, she agreed.
They met at a quiet café.
Callum sat beside his mother.
The bride approached slowly.
She looked nervous.
She sat across from them.
“Hi, Callum.”
“Hi.”
“I brought you something.”
She placed a small box on the table.
Callum looked at his mother.
Adria nodded.
He opened it.
Inside was a simple silver compass.
Callum looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because you followed what you knew was true.”
He turned it over in his hands.
The bride smiled.
“You were scared, but you still told your mother.”
Callum looked down.
“I almost didn't.”
“But you did.”
He nodded.
The bride took a breath.
“I am sorry you were hurt at my wedding.”
Callum said nothing.
“I should have stopped things sooner.”
Adria appreciated the honesty.
Callum finally looked up.
“Are you still marrying him?”
The bride shook her head.
“No.”
