Chapter 6 - THE WATCH

The smartwatch contained more than one recording.
Amos had triggered safety mode three times in two months.
I had never noticed because the recordings were stored inside a child-safety cloud account linked to an old email address.
My father set it up.
After his death, alerts stopped forwarding properly.
The data remained.
Recording one:
Six weeks earlier.
Eudora:
“Stop asking for your mother.”
Amos:
“I’m hungry.”
Eudora:
“You can eat when adults finish.”
Benedict’s voice:
“Eudora, give him something.”
Eudora:
“Then tell Romilly to sign.”
Silence.
Benedict:
“Don’t involve him.”
Good.
Then nothing.
He still did not remove Amos.
Recording two:
Three weeks earlier.
Eudora discussing trust documents with someone.
Likely family-office employee.
“Move the expense back after closing.”
Employee:
“Which branch?”
Eudora:
“Amos. Nobody reviews it while dormant.”
There.
Financial evidence.
Still needed context.
Then:
“If Romilly activates direct notice, we’ll have to explain everything.”
Recording three:
Dinner night.
Kneeling.
Scraps.
Friday.
The smartwatch had captured a pattern.
We gave all files to investigators and trust counsel.
No public posting.
No revenge montage.
Then Benedict listened.
He cried at the first recording.
“I told her to feed him.”
“Yes.”
“I didn’t know she kept doing it.”
“You knew enough.”
“Yes.”
Good.
No defense.
Then he heard:
Then tell Romilly to sign.
His face collapsed.
“She was using him.”
“Yes.”
“I knew she was pressuring me. I didn’t realize—”
“You told Amos not to make her mad.”
He looked down.
“Yes.”
He gave a sworn statement.
Eudora had repeatedly told him:
If Romilly refuses, the sale dies.
If Amos branch activates, family loses control.
If Benedict challenges her, his distribution disappears.
Did she legally control his distribution?
Partly discretionary.
Power.
Money.
Belonging.
Benedict admitted he chose silence.
Then a new question.
Why was Amos’s branch dormant at all?
The trust company, Hawthorne Fiduciary Group, opened internal review.
They found direct notices.
Returned.
Centralized.
Again.
Who authorized?
Norwood Family Administration.
Eudora.
Did Hawthorne independently call me?
No.
Why?
Longstanding family communication practice.
Another institutional failure.
Then they found a document:
DESCENDANT PARTICIPATION DEFERRAL.
Signature:
Benedict.
Signature:
Romilly.
Mine.
I had never signed it.
The handwriting looked perfect.
Naomi sent it to an examiner.
Likely copied from another document.
“What document?”
We traced.
Our mortgage application.
Four years earlier.
Three weeks after Amos was born.
Someone copied my signature after his birth.
Before the first direct notice.
May you like
Eudora’s control had not remained dormant by accident.
Someone had manufactured my consent.
