Chapter 23 - BENEDICT AND ME

We never remarried each other.

People expected some redemption romance.

No.

Benedict changed.

I respected him.

We co-parented well.

That did not recreate marriage.

I remarried at forty-two.

Noah Ellis.

A civil engineer.

No family dynasty.

No interest in protected voting rights.

Excellent.

Benedict attended Amos’s graduation with his wife.

We sat near each other.

Not together.

Healthy.

Years later Benedict asked:

“Do you regret marrying me?”

“No.”

He looked surprised.

“Why?”

“Because real love happened. Then real betrayal happened. One doesn’t erase the other.”

He cried.

I didn’t.

We finished coffee.

Separate lives.
