Chapter 26 - THE FOYER RECORDING

Years later, prosecutors notified us that duplicate evidence copies of the foyer video could be destroyed after legal retention ended.
Lily was an adult.
Her decision mattered.
“Delete the extras.”
“Do you want one?”
“No.”
“What about for family history?”
She stared at me.
“Mom, my teeth are in my mouth.”
I laughed.
Not those teeth.
But I understood.
The official judgment and transcript remained.
No need to preserve forever the image of a four-year-old being hit.
The duplicate footage was destroyed.
I kept no copy.
The first tooth had been disposed of years earlier under medical evidence protocol.
The second returned by the unknown person had also been destroyed after investigation closed.
No relics.
No shadow box.
May you like
No marble fragment.
The story did not need objects to stay true.
