Chapter 20 - CHLOE’S LETTER

Chloe completed her sentence and supervision.

She wrote Lily a letter.

The therapist screened it.

I read it first with Lily’s eventual permission framework.

Chloe wrote:

You spilled wine on my dress and I decided your fear mattered less than my humiliation. I hit you because I believed adults like me were entitled to punish children like you.

I am sorry.

No excuse about the dress.

No blame.

I stored it.

At fourteen, Lily chose to read it.

“She says she was jealous of you.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because she wanted your father.”

Lily grimaced.

“Gross.”

Fair.

“Do I answer?”

“No requirement.”

She did not.

May you like

Chloe later requested no meeting.

That restraint was the first respectful thing she ever did for Lily.
