Chapter 25 - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOUSE

The independent trustee sold twelve acres of unused land beside the property.

That paid down a substantial part of the disputed debt.

Silas and Robert restitution contributed more.

Lender settlement reduced interest and fees because of verification failures.

The house itself did not need to be sold.

I was given a choice.

Assume beneficial management under the trust.

Or authorize sale.

I visited once alone.

Sat in the living room.

Imagined raising Josephine there.

Too big.

Too far from school.

Too full of inherited arguments.

I authorized sale.

Robert called it betrayal.

Grandfather’s house leaving family.

Maybe.

But trusts exist for beneficiaries, not architecture.

I hope they were loud.
