Chapter 20 - THE TRUST GETS SMALLER

Eira’s residence trust was never enormous.

The house.

A maintenance reserve.

Some investments.

Personal effects.

By the time Eira was eighteen, the trustee reviewed whether the structure still made sense.

She attended.

Jeans.

Coffee.

Locket.

The trustee explained:

The house remained trust-owned.

At twenty-five, Eira could elect to retain trust ownership, sell, or restructure subject to tax advice.

My occupancy rights could continue if she wanted and the trust allowed.

I immediately said:

“I can move.”

Eira rolled her eyes.

“Dad.”

“What?”

“Stop making yourself homeless for symbolism.”

Fair.

The trust shifted some investment assets directly to her adult beneficiary account.

Personal effects became hers outright at eighteen.

House remained in trust until twenty-five.

Boring.

Correct.

No child kingdom.

No hidden billion-dollar inheritance.

The most valuable thing financially was the house.

The most valuable thing emotionally was still the locket.

Eira hated hearing that sentence because people kept saying it.

May you like

“Please stop making the locket a metaphor.”

Fair.
