Chapter 10 - WHY THEY NEEDED ME UNFIT
Harper did not inherit a savings account.
She inherited control.
Ethan’s grandfather had placed fifty-one percent of Vance Medical Holdings into a generation-skipping trust. Victoria controlled the voting rights until the first great-grandchild reached forty days old.
On that date, voting authority transferred to the child’s legal guardian.
If both parents remained fit and together, they shared authority.
If one parent held primary residence by court order or written agreement, that parent controlled the vote.
If a guardian was declared medically unfit, the trust protector could appoint an interim family custodian.
Victoria had arranged to become that custodian.
She needed me unstable.
She needed Ethan obedient.
She needed Harper living at the estate.
The dog collar was not only class hatred.
It was the trigger in a planned evidence event.
Meridian installed the floral relay, instructed guests when to record, and prepared an edited clip before the reception began.
Dr. Kell wrote the psychiatric letter without examining me.
Clara documented ordinary postpartum behavior until it could be reframed.
My email account was accessed to create a false confession.
The baby monitor supplied surveillance.
The feeding log was altered.
The private ceremony would activate control while my fitness remained disputed.
Every piece answered the same question:
Who would vote Harper’s shares?
Victoria feared losing Vance Medical because an outside investment group had offered to purchase the company. The independent directors supported negotiations after years of declining performance.
Victoria opposed the sale.
With Harper’s voting block, the guardian could decide whether she remained chair or was removed.
She called it preserving legacy.
The financial records showed something else.
Vance Medical had paid millions to companies controlled by Victoria’s friends. A sale would trigger audits and expose those contracts.
Ethan knew about the succession clause.
He claimed he did not know the scale of the surveillance or forged evidence.
He knew enough to sign the false affidavit.
He knew enough to let Victoria provoke me.
He knew enough to erase the live feed.
The family court issued an emergency order suspending the ceremony and preventing any transfer of guardianship-based voting authority until a full evidentiary hearing.
Harper remained with me.
Ethan’s contact became supervised again.
Victoria was barred from approaching either of us.
When the order was served, she did not call me.
She called the Vance board.
Before the court could determine who controlled Harper’s shares, Victoria scheduled a vote to amend the trust-related company bylaws.
