Natalie’s lawyer eventually stopped calling everything misunderstanding.
The copied signature destroyed that.
She admitted creating reimbursement forms and family-care records.
She insisted she believed the family was entitled to compensation because I relied on them.
But entitlement is not authorization.
The strongest counts involved false submissions and identity/signature misuse.
She entered a plea rather than trial.
No twenty-year prison fantasy.
First serious offense.
No violence by her directly.
Restitution.
Probation.
Short custodial period under the negotiated resolution.
Community service.
Financial restrictions.
Prohibition on serving as fiduciary or paid caregiver for Sophie.
The child-safety case remained separate.
Mom’s resolution was lighter.
Civil repayment.
Probationary consequence related to false certification where evidence supported it.
Mandatory parenting/grandparent education if she ever sought contact.
